Background of the Study
Cybersecurity is a growing concern for universities worldwide as they increasingly rely on digital platforms for academic, administrative, and financial functions. With the rise of cyber-attacks, universities are looking to integrate more advanced cybersecurity technologies to safeguard their data and systems. Quantum computing has the potential to revolutionize cybersecurity by providing quantum-enhanced encryption algorithms that are more secure than classical methods (Miller et al., 2023). Quantum-safe algorithms are designed to resist attacks from quantum computers, which could potentially break traditional cryptographic methods like RSA and ECC. As Nigerian universities, such as Federal University, Kashere, begin adopting digital systems, it is essential to evaluate how quantum computing can be integrated into their cybersecurity policies.
Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State, offers a valuable case study to examine the feasibility and impact of quantum computing in enhancing cybersecurity policies. Given the university's reliance on digital tools for managing student records, staff data, and academic resources, it is crucial to explore quantum-enhanced security systems to protect sensitive information.
Statement of the Problem
Cybersecurity threats continue to evolve, and existing security protocols may no longer provide adequate protection against advanced threats, especially in the context of quantum computing. While Nigerian universities are gradually adopting digital technologies, their cybersecurity frameworks often rely on classical encryption methods, which may be vulnerable to future quantum attacks. There is a gap in understanding how quantum computing can enhance cybersecurity measures at Nigerian universities. This study aims to evaluate the potential of quantum computing-based cybersecurity policies at Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State.
Objectives of the Study
To evaluate the effectiveness of current cybersecurity policies at Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State.
To explore the potential of quantum computing to enhance cybersecurity policies at the university.
To identify the challenges and opportunities of integrating quantum computing into existing cybersecurity policies at Federal University, Kashere.
Research Questions
How effective are the current cybersecurity policies at Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State, in protecting university data?
In what ways can quantum computing enhance the university’s cybersecurity measures?
What challenges exist in integrating quantum computing into the university's cybersecurity policies?
Significance of the Study
This study will contribute valuable insights into the integration of quantum computing in enhancing cybersecurity measures at Nigerian universities. The findings will help Federal University, Kashere, and other Nigerian institutions explore quantum-safe solutions to protect sensitive data and improve their cybersecurity policies.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on evaluating cybersecurity policies and the integration of quantum computing at Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State. It will not examine cybersecurity issues at other universities or institutions.
